We decided to start up this «Fugue Forum» in which composer-participants contribute, in approximately equal numbers, fugues of their own with substantial commentaries describing how the subject was chosen, what compositional choices were made and why, and adding whatever general reflections the author thinks are interesting and relevant to students, performers and music-lovers. Abbiamo deciso di iniziare questo «Fugue Forum» nel quale i compositori-partecipanti contribuiscono con fughe proprie munite di un corposo commento che descrive la scelta del soggetto, quali scelte compositive sono state attuate e perché. Il compositore aggiungerà inoltre tutte quelle riflessioni che ritiene degne di nota e importanti per gli studenti.
The compositions of our «Fugue Forum» are not only a repository of music to play and enjoy, but also – thanks to the commentaries – a store of fugal «lore» and instruction of possible profit to any who are thinking of writing fugues or even merely understanding better what goes on in fugues. Le composizioni del nostro «Fugue Forum» non sono dunque solo un deposito di musiche da suonare e gustare, ma anche – grazie ai commenti relativi – una raccolta sapienzale relativa alla forma «fuga», che può essere potenzialmente molto utile a chiunque stia pensando di comporre fughe o più semplicemente comprendere meglio cosa succede in una fuga.
